What makes this Montserrat and winery tour different?

Accepted Answer

Most Montserrat tours stop at the basilica and end there. This one runs the full day. It arrives  early at Montserrat to avoid the crowds and spends the afternoon at a family-run winery in the Penedès.It’s the equivalent of two day trips folded into one.

Why does the tour start so early?

Accepted Answer

The tour leaves Barcelona early so that you reach Montserrat before the large tour groups arrive. Most large-bus tours pull in mid-morning, which means the basilica is crowded and the viewpoints are full. By starting earlier, you walk into a near-empty basilica and get the mountain at its quietest hour.

Will I get to see the Black Madonna ?

Accepted Answer

Yes, from the basilica floor. The tour includes the standard basilica entry ticket, which lets you see La Moreneta, the famous Black Madonna of Montserrat, from below the altar where she sits. Montserrat also offers a separateticket that grants access to the upper chamber where you can stand next to her and touch her hand. That upper-access ticket is not included on this tour, but you can purchase it separately on arrival if it's important to you. The view from below is how most pilgrims have seen her for centuries.

What kind of food is served at the lunch?

A farmhouse meal cooked by the family, served outside among the vines when the weather allows and inside a small stone hut when it doesn't. The menu changes with the season but typically includes pan con tomate, white beans with Catalan sausage, a selection of three local cheeses and charcuterie, and a dessert– all  from local Penedès farms. The wines poured alongside are all made on the farm.

What wines will I taste?

Five wines from the family's own production, typically including a white cava, a rosé cava, a still white, a still red, and a dessert wine. The first glass is poured during the cellar tour, the rest come with the lunch.

Is the tour suitable for children?

Accepted Answer

The tour is built for adults and older teenagers. The 4x4 ride goes off-road through working vineyards and the jeep doesn't have child seats. The day is long, with about two hours of total transfer time. Children aged 2 and over are welcome and a child ticket is available, but we'd recommend it most for guests who can settle into a full road day and enjoy the winery portion.

Is the tour suitable for guests with mobility requirements?

Accepted Answer

Montserrat involves walking on uneven mountain paths and stone steps inside the basilica, and the winery includes walking through cellars and across vineyard ground that's sometimes uneven. The 4x4 ride is bumpy. We'd love to welcome as many guests as possible. Get in touch before booking and we'll talk through whether this tour is the right fit for your needs.

Can dietary requirements be accommodated?

Accepted Answer

Yes, with notice. The farmhouse kitchen can adapt for vegetarians, pescatarians, dairy-free, and non-celiac gluten-free guests if you tell us at booking. We can't accommodate vegans or guests with celiac disease, because the kitchen is a small family operation built around traditional Catalan ingredients and cross-contamination is a real risk. If your dietary need isn't listed here, contact us before booking and we'll tell you honestly whether we can adapt.

Question 9

What time does the tour return to Barcelona?

Accepted Answer

You'll be back in central Barcelona  in the late afternoon, with the rest of the  evening open. Return time varies slightly with traffic on the road back from the Penedès.
