What exactly is a tapa?

A tapa is a small dish served alongside a drink. The tradition originated as a way to eat while you drank, and in Barcelona it has evolved into an art form. We'll walk you through the etiquette and the culture at the first stop.

How much food and drink is included?

Accepted Answer

Ten or more tapas and four drinks across three stops, enough for a full dinner. The tour is designed to be your meal for the evening, not a precursor to one.

What will I eat and drink?

A typical evening includes cured meats, Spanish cheese, and vermouth at the first stop; butifarra sausage, crispy fried fish, red wine, and a turn with the porrón at the second; and croquettes, patatas bravas, Catalan cannelloni, bold red wine, and crema Catalana at the third. Some dishes change with the season. The quality doesn't.

What is a porrón?

A traditional Catalan wine vessel with a long, narrow spout. You pour wine directly into your mouth from a height without the vessel touching your lips. It sounds simple. It isn't. Your guide will show you how it's done.

Can dietary requirements be accommodated?

We can adapt the tour for vegetarians, pescatarians, dairy free diets, gluten free diets, pregnant guests, and those with allergies or who prefer non-alcoholic drinks. Please let us know when you book.

We're not able to fully accommodate vegans or guests with celiac disease due to the risk of cross-contamination at these bars. If you have questions about fit, get in touch and we'll help find the right option.

Is this a good tour for a first night in Barcelona?

It's one of the best ways to start a trip. By the end of the evening you'll know the Gothic Quarter on foot, have a shortlist of places to go back to, and understand the city well enough to navigate the rest of your stay with confidence.

How much walking is involved?

Accepted Answer

The tour covers the Gothic Quarter on foot over three and a half hours, including a forty-five minute history walk between stops. The terrain is cobblestoned and uneven in places. Wear shoes you feel comfortable in.

Is this tour suitable for guests with mobility requirements?

Accepted Answer

We'd love to welcome as many guests as possible. The tour involves walking on cobblestoned streets, climbing narrow staircases, and standing inside busy bars, which can be challenging for guests with mobility limitations. Get in touch before booking and we'll advise.

We cap groups at maximum 11 guests per guide, although your group might be smaller depending on the day. It’s small enough to move through the Gothic Quarter's narrow streets easily and to feel like an evening with friends rather than a tour.
