What to expect
St. Mark's Square: the city before the water
You'll meet your guide in St. Mark's Square, between the Basilica and the Doge's Palace, for the story of how Venice became a maritime empire. It sets the scene for everything you're about to see from the boat. Then you head to the water.
The Grand Canal
Aboard the boat, you'll cruise the Grand Canal, the city's main waterway, lined with palaces and crossed by its famous bridges. Your guide tells the stories behind each one as you pass: the Ca' d'Oro and Ca' Pesaro, the Rialto Bridge and its fish market, the Accademia. You can sit inside for the commentary or stand to take photos, with headsets so you hear either way.
"From the water, the palaces make sense. Their grand front doors open onto the canal, not the street. People always say they finally understand Venice once they've seen it by boat."

"The Grand Canal is the showpiece, but I love turning into the little back canals. That's where you see laundry lines and someone's grandmother waving from a window. The real Venice."
Carolina,
