  • •Taste hand-cut prosciutto, three Italian cheeses, and wood-fired bruschetta at Testaccio Market
  • •Sit down to oxtail and wine at a trattoria where six generations of the same family have cooked it
  • •Hear the story of quinto quarto, the nose-to-tail tradition born in Testaccio's own slaughterhouse
  • •Pick your gelato where the zabaione is still frozen by hand, stirred over ice

What to expect

A Roman morning: coffee at the counter

Your Rome food tour starts the way every Roman morning does, standing at a pasticceria counter with an espresso and something sweet. The family behind this one has been here since 1971, baking fresh maritozzo every morning. The maritozzo, a soft brioche split open and filled with cream, has been a Roman staple since the Middle Ages.

Testaccio Market: where the neighborhood shops

Your guide walks you through Testaccio Market the way locals move through it, stall by stall. You'll stop for baked pizza, then taste tomatoes from a family farm. At the prosciutteria, the owner slices prosciutto by hand. You'll taste it alongside fresh ricotta, mozzarella, and aged pecorino Romano. You’ll also order a panino at the market's busiest sandwich counter for a bite into Rome's original street food.

If you have dietary requirements or allergies, let us know when you book and we'll work with our partner venues to adapt your tastings. See the FAQs for more details.

"When I walk guests through the market, the vendors say hello by name. The regulars stop to gossip. It still feels like a village in here."
