What to expect
The historic center: layers of Rome, built one on top of the last
Rome doesn't have a single story. It has layers of them, each built directly on top of the last. Your morning begins in Piazza Navona, where Bernini's Fountain of the Four Rivers rises from travertine that was quarried centuries before he carved it. From there you'll walk past the Pantheon's 1,900-year-old dome and on to the Trevi Fountain, arriving at Piazza Venezia with the Roman Forum spread below you.
The Colosseum: where fifty thousand Romans sat
After a lunch break with restaurant recommendations from your guide, you'll walk to the Colosseum. Pre-reserved tickets mean you head straight in, entering through the same gate Roman spectators used. Inside, you'll stand where emperors watched while your guide traces the engineering that allowed the arena floor to be flooded for mock naval battles.
"I can take private groups to a quiet corner near the Pantheon that the big tours walk straight past. That's where the real questions start."
Ambra,

"Everyone wants to know about gladiators, but I love explaining the trapdoors. There were thirty-six of them, all hidden under a wooden floor."
Francesco,
