What to expect

Day 1, Pompeii: frozen in time

You'll leave Rome early by private minibus for Pompeii, where an archaeologist leads a two-hour walk through the preserved streets. You'll see the theatre, the Roman fast-food counters, a bakery, and the sprawling House of the Vetti. It's the ancient world made legible by someone who knows it stone by stone.

Day 1, a winery on Vesuvius: lunch on an active volcano

Next is a winery on the volcanic slopes of Mount Vesuvius, where your hosts walk you through vineyards grown in volcanic soil and the traditions behind them. You'll sit down to a homemade three-course lunch paired with three of the estate's wines. You're eating on the slopes of an active volcano, with the Bay of Naples spread out below.
