What makes this Florence David and Duomo tour different from the Best of Florence Walking Tour?

Do I have to climb the dome?

The dome climb is entirely optional. The guided tour finishes on the terraces, which are worth the visit on their own. If you decide to climb, your skip-the-line access is ready. If not, you can head straight out and enjoy the rest of your day in Florence.

How strenuous is the dome climb?

The climb is 463 steps with no elevator, and the staircase narrows between the inner and outer shells of the dome. Most people with reasonable fitness manage it comfortably. If you have concerns about enclosed spaces or mobility, the terrace experience (included in the guided tour) offers views of the dome and the city without the full climb. From the cathedral to the north terrace it is 247 steps with no break.

Can I bring a bag into the Accademia and the Duomo?

Large backpacks and suitcases are not permitted in the Accademia and will need to be stored in nearby lockers (at your own expense). The Duomo has similar restrictions. Keep in mind you'll carry anything you bring up the dome stairs. Small bags are fine for both.

Is there a dress code for the Florence Duomo?

Shoulders and knees must be covered to enter the Cathedral and climb the dome, no exceptions. In the summer months, bring a scarf in the summer months to cover yourself before entering. You’ll be climbing steep steps to get to the terraces and top of the dome. Proper footwear is essential. The cathedral’s security staff will refuse entry if you’re wearing flip flops, slippers, clogs, or shoes with heals.

Do I need to bring ID?

Yes. A valid photo ID is required to enter the Accademia Gallery, for all guests including children.
