What to expect
San Polo at golden hour: your evening starts at the counter
Meet your guide in Campo San Tomà and walk straight into the neighborhood. Your first bacaro is a local favorite with young owners and a loyal crowd, the kind of place where regulars lean on the counter with a spritz in hand. You'll try bread cicchetti here, the Venetian tradition of small bites piled onto slices of bread, alongside your first drink of the evening.
Bacari and bridges: fried cicchetti on the canal
From there, you'll wind through the neighborhood, pausing at a second bacaro for cold cuts and a glass of prosecco tapped from a local producer. Then it's on to a canalside wine bar where the specialty is fried cicchetti, still crackling from the oil, with a glass of Veneto wine. Every bacaro fries to its own recipe, and the canal view from this one earns the stop on its own.
"The best food in Venice is served on a napkin, at a counter, with a glass of something cold. That's where I take people first."
