What to expect
The Tower after dark: led by a guide who lives inside the walls
Your evening begins at the gates of the Tower of London after the last public visitors have left. The grounds are lit but quiet. Your guide is a Yeoman Warder, one of the ceremonial guardians who have watched over this fortress for centuries, and who lives with their family inside the Tower walls.
Traitor's Gate and the walk to the block
The Warder leads you through the grounds, stopping at Traitor's Gate, the river entrance where prisoners arrived by boat knowing they were unlikely to leave. You'll follow their path toward Execution Square, where three English queens and two saints were put to death.
"During the Blitz, the ceremony got interrupted by a bomb. They dusted off and finished it. The report said the Keys were locked seven minutes late."
